• Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis by Calvin S. Banyan, Gerald F. Kein, Calvin D. Banyan
  An intermediate to advanced book by the head of The Hypnosis Center, Inc.
• The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnosis by Ormond McGill
  A must have book for anyone who wishes to do stage hypnosis. Ormond is the master in this field and The Encyclopedia is the de-facto bible for any aspiring stage hypnotist.
• The Wizard Within: The Krazner Method of Hypnotherapy by A. M. Krazner
  A nice introduction to performing hypnotherapy using the Krazner Method. This book is the official curriculum of the certification cources for the American Board of Hypnotherapy and American Pacific University.
• Tranceworks by Michael D. Yapko
  A large, but worthwhile, book teaching mostly Ericksonian style hypnotherapy..
• Handbook of Hypnotic Suggestions and Metaphors by Corydon Hammond, et al
  The difinitive collection of scripts and articles collected from members of the National Guild of Hypnotists. Contains scripts dealing with everything from quitting smoking to weight loss to cancer to children.
• Fun with Hypnosis: The Complete How-To Guide by Professor Svengali
  A very fun, light, but surprisingly informative introduction to hypnosis and stage hypnosis.
• Training Trances by John Overdurf, Julie Silverthorn, Tad James
  The masters teach advanced hypnosis technniques as they relate to traning and super-learning.
• Trance-Formations by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
  This classic is a must read for anyone who is a Bandler fan, or those who just want to venture outside the box and really learn some advanced hypnosis techniques.

Self-Hypnosis

• The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hypnosis by Roberta Temes
  Although the title is a bit misleading (it's really mostly about self hypnosis or auto hypnosis), this is a good introduction to hypnosis and what you can expect as the subject of a trance state.
• Hypnosis for Change by Josie Hadley, Carol Staudacher
  A good hypnosis-centric self help book .

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

• The Magic of NLP Demystified: A Pragmatic Guide to Communication and Change by Byron A. Lewis, et al
  This book by Byron Lewis does a fantastic job of breaking the utterly complex field of NLP down into compredendable chunks.
• Neuro-Linguistic Programming: Volume I by Robert Dilts, John Grinder, Richard Bandler, and Judith DeLozier
  The book that first introduced the collected techniques called NLP. It's a very dry book, but is essential reading once you have a firm grasp on NLP. I would not, however, recommend reading this as your first NLP book (a mistake many make).
• Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson Volume I by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
  The books that started it all - these are the first published works in the infancy of NLP.
• Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson Volume II by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
  The books that started it all - these are the first published works in the infancy of NLP.
• The Structure of Magic Volume I by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
  The books that started it all - these are the first published works in the infancy of NLP.
• The Structure of Magic Volume II by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
  The books that started it all - these are the first published works in the infancy of NLP.
• The Sourcebook of Magic by L. Michael Hall
  An excellent reference, cataloging and categorizing all of the known (at the time) patterns and techniques under the therapeutic NLP umbrella.
• Modeling with NLP by Robert Dilts
  While NLP is commonly thought of as a collection of therapeutic/sales/influence/rapport techniques, what really made it all possible, at the center of the field, was the modelling of successful people. In this book, Robert Dilts discusses the NLP way of acquiring skills from other people's success.
• Changing Belief Systems by Robert Dilts
  An interesting book that looks at the structure of people's beliefs and how we can use NLP to change impoverished beliefs.
• Timeline Therapy and the Basis of Personality by Tad James
  There simply are no other sources on the subject of timeline therapy other than to attend one of Tad's seminars. If you're interested in using the timeline as a metaphore to help heal people, this is the book for you.
• Using your Brain For a Change by Richard Bandler, et al
  A collection of Richard Bandler and John Grinder seminar transcripts organized by Connirae and Steve Andreas. Full of excellent strategies and NLP knowledge.
• Heart of the Mind by Richard Bandler, et al
  Another collection of Richard Bandler and John Grinder seminar transcripts organized by Connirae and Steve Andreas. Full of excellent strategies and NLP knowledge.
• Reframing by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
  The quintessential book on content reframing and context reframing, including the original six-step reframe.
• Therapeutic Metaphors by David A. Gordon
  Even if you aren't the best storyteller, you can learn to construct metaphors for your subjects' subconscious mind. Therapeutic Metaphors is a fantastic book for starting you in that direction.
• Frogs into Princes by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
  The other quintessential book on content reframing and context reframing, including the original six-step reframe.
• Personality Selling: Using NLP and the Enneagram to Understand People and How They Are Influenced by Albert J. Valentino
  Although, I had a hard time getting into the "Enneagram", which tries to pidgeonhole every person into one of nine personality types, the first half of this book on NLP is outstanding. A great read, even if you don't make it through the second half.
• Instant Rapport by Michael Brooks
  One of the only books I know that takes NLP and applies it to something completely practical that we all can understand. Rather than teaching NLP from a clinical perspective, Michael Brooks attacks the task from a social perspective. If you really want to learn rapport, this is a great book for you to start.

Motivational

• My Voice will Go With You: The Motivational Tales of Milton H. Erickson
  An excellent collection of anecdotal stories and metaphors from Milton Erickson.
• Chicken Soup for the Soul and other related titles by Jack Canfield
  Collections of motivational stories form Jack Canfield.
